World Soil Day News: Land to Market Reaches Over 6 Million Acres Monitored
Over 80 Brands Turn to Land to Market for Responsible Material Sourcing
and Positive Environmental Impact
DURANGO, COLORADO, USA (November 15, 2023) -- Land to Market, the world’s first verified sourcing solution for regenerative agriculture, today announced that more than six million acres of land around the world are currently being monitored for regenerative outcomes. The milestone was reached in advance of World Soil Day, December 5, 2023.
With vast expanses of land succumbing to the detrimental effects of modern agricultural practices, our soil, the lifeblood of ecosystems, is in peril. Land to Market is dedicated to addressing this root problem by championing regenerative agriculture and improving soil health, empowering its member brands to source from farms and ranches that it verifies as regenerative.
"Six million acres regenerated is not just a number; it's a declaration of Land to Market's commitment to transformative change,” said Chris Kerston, Co-CEO of Land to Market. “Land to Market invites brands to step into the future of business, one that actively addresses the climate crisis. Join us on a regenerative journey that goes beyond traditional sustainability, to support land regeneration and sourcing from verified regenerative landscapes. Together, we can shape a more sustainable, resilient, and regenerative world,” continued Kerston.
Regenerative agriculture goes beyond sustainability to continuously improve the entire ecosystem -- soil, water, plants and animals. Land to Market uses Ecological Outcome VerificationTM (EOV,) a scientific data collection and protocol that gives the land a voice of its own by tracking criteria such as soil health, water infiltration rates, biodiversity, sequestered carbon, and ecosystem function. EOV was developed by Savory Institute along with Michigan State University, Texas A&M, Ovis 21, The Nature Conservancy, and others.
Land to Market is currently working with 80+ brand members in the food, fashion, and health & wellness categories, including Applegate, FOND Bone Broth, Alec's Ice Cream, Serenity Kids, UGG, Eileen Fisher, and more. These apparel and CPG companies, ranging from small, forward-facing brands to multinational corporations, are working with Land to Market to innovate their supply chain to be better for the environment and help them meet aggressive environmental goals.
“Through regenerative agriculture, Land to Market endeavors to turn the tide, fostering a future where our land flourishes, and our soil thrives, contributing to a healthier, more resilient planet for generations to come,” said David Rizzo, Co-CEO of Land to Market. "By choosing regenerative sourcing, companies are not just making a statement; they're actively participating in the regeneration of our planet. It's a shared responsibility, and together, we can build a future where businesses thrive while leaving a positive legacy for generations to come,” continued Rizzo.
It is estimated that 295 million tons of CO2 could be sequestered every year through improved grazing methods associated with regenerative agriculture. As more land is regenerated, more vegetation is grown and more carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere — helping to reduce temperature shifts caused by rising carbon in the atmosphere.
Land to Market is a Public Benefit Corporation born out of the non-profit organization, Savory Institute, whose mission is to regenerate the world’s grasslands.
