FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kalona, Iowa, January 30, 2023 - Kalona Supernatural, a national organic dairy brand sold in 3,000 stores nationwide, announced that 42 organic dairy farms supplying organic milk for its products are verified regenerative through Land to Market and Savory Institute. The farms, including over 4,000 acres, are located primarily in Iowa, and provide organic milk for Kalona SuperNatural’s fluid milk, cream, buttermilk, kefir, and yogurt. Land to Market uses a scientific protocol, Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV™), to monitor and prove that Kalona SuperNatural farms are improving ecosystem health including air, water, topsoil, and biodiversity.
“Our partnership with Kalona Supernatural is unique in that they are both a brand, producing Land to Market verified dairy products, and also a hub for Savory Institute helping teach other farmers in their local area how to improve environmental health,” says David Rizzo, Co-CEO of Land to Market. “We look forward to helping Kalona SuperNatural to go beyond sustainability and beyond organic to regenerate their local region and grow their impact both at the land level and in the marketplace as they expand nationwide onto store shelves, like Natural Grocers and Sprouts Farmers Market,” continues Rizzo.
Kalona SuperNatural is proud to support dozens of Amish and Mennonite small family farms that are practicing Savory Institue’s holistic management. Kalona SuperNatural milk is pasteurized at the lowest-temperature allowed by law and is non-homogenized allowing the cream to rise naturally to the top.
“Many of our farms have used organic and regenerative farming methods for decades,” says Managing Partner of Kalona Supernatural, Joe Miller. “We have increasingly heard questions concerning what we were doing to go beyond organic practices to proactively restore the environment - including air, soil, plant, and water quality. Our organic regenerative farms are rebuilding farm topsoil, storing more water, and turning them into a diversity of nutrient-dense plants that our cows turn into delicious dairy,” continues Miller.
Land to Market, established by the Savory Institute, is widely recognized as the gold standard for land health. Its EOV protocol is used to measure regenerative outcomes and impact on over 3.5 million acres that provide raw materials for over 80 brands. The Land to Market Verified seal on nine Kalona SuperNatural dairy products assures retailers and consumers that their purchases are helping save small farms and the planet.”
“We are not looking to just sell more products, we want consumers to learn how regenerative farming is good for the planet,” says Miller. “By purchasing Kalona SuperNatural organic dairy and other Land to Market verified products, consumers can do something every day - even if small - to help create a better future for all of us,” continues Miller.
Products with the Land to Market seal are sourced from farms showing positive environmental outcomes through EOV.
